 The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss a N10 billion lawsuit accusing it of leaking a voter's confidential information ahead of the 2027 general elections. The suit was filed by Nollywood actor and House of Representatives aspirant Emeka Ike against INEC and Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Ike alleged that his fundamental right to privacy was violated after his voter registration details were published on X. Although Olayinka made the publication, the actor argued that the information came from records held by INEC. Through his lawyer, Leonard Adeh, Ike asked the court to declare that publishing his details without his consent amounted to a breach of his privacy and personal data protection rights. In its response, INEC denied any involvement in the alleged leak and argued that voter information submitted during registration is not classified or confidential....

According to French authorities, Siad was found dead on Monday at his residence. A deputy public prosecutor at the Nanterre Judicial Court confirmed the death, adding that the cause and circumstances remain under investigation.Siad was a longtime associate of Epstein and acknowledged that he had arranged meetings between the late financier and several aspiring models. He maintained that he believed Epstein was connected to the fashion industry, claiming he thought he worked as a casting director for Victoria's Secret and a leading modelling agency.   A notorious fugitive on the FBI’s Most Wanted Fraudsters List for allegedly stealing more than half a billion dollars from Medicare has been captured after an international manhunt.   Khalid Satary, 54, was cuffed in the Middle East on Monday after more than three years on the lam for allegedly orchestrating a scheme to defraud Medicare of over $547 million, the US Department of Justice announced on Tuesday, July 21.   Satary was indicted in 2019 in the Eastern District of Louisiana for allegedly billing Medicare for expensive and unnecessary genetic tests between 2016 and 2019, according to prosecutors.   A foreign traveller has shared his first experience after arriving in Lagos, saying the process was much easier than he expected despite the warnings he had seen online. According to him, immigration was smooth, officials were friendly, and no one asked him for anything. He added that his only issue was waiting for his luggage, which had already been taken off the baggage belt. The Department of State Services is set to appeal the life sentences handed down to the two convicted Ansaru terrorist commanders by the Abuja high court, insisting the punishment does not reflect the gravity of their crimes.   The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, July 20, sentenced Mahmud Usman, alias Abu Bara'a, the self-proclaimed Emir of Ansaru, and Abubakar Abba, alias Mahmud al-Nigeri, to life imprisonment after both men pleaded guilty to 32 terrorism-related charges.   However, a senior DSS official told NTA that the Service will seek the maximum penalty, arguing that the convicts were central to the kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State, where abductors allegedly demanded their release in exchange for the victims. The DSS also maintains that two teachers were beheaded during the ordeal to pressure the government, insisting justice for the victims and their families requires a stiffer punishment than life imprisonment.  

  A group of five adults, two children, and another individual was out on the Scioto River to “enjoy themselves a summer night” of fishing when the tragedy unfolded, Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer said at a    news conference on Monday, July 20.   At some point, one adult went into the water to swim and began struggling, prompting two other adults to dive in to try to save them.
